Seeing

Chartwell is an explorer of the visual world. We want to know more about how and what we see. When both the eye and the mind are active, the creative process opens to the artist and viewer. The Chartwell Collection provides the viewer many examples of creative visual thought in action.

Making

Chartwell supports artists as they make and think. Making is an active and connected process, involving the interaction of intention, intuition and intellect with the mediums of the world. Chartwell is making too - making a difference through philanthropy and enabling access to creative activities and research.

A Creative Life - The Toi Ako Mentoring Project

19 March 2020

Flirting with Form: Works by Toi Ako Artists

A touring exhibition of works created by kaumātua artists and their artist mentors during the TOI AKO Mentoring Project, Auckland 2019.

The Connect the Dots programmes show how the energy of creativity through art helps expand engagement with life for kamātua. "Creativity provides both an opportunity for improved wellbeing, both on an individual and community level, but also gives makers a voice and presence," says Connect the Dots Charitable Trust Director, Andrea Gaskin. The Toi Ako touring exhibition speaks strongly to the goals of the Trust - to enable participants the opportunity to find freedom, their voice, new relationships and creative understandings. The Chartwell Trust is a proud supporter of this vision.
